Notes

I am making many modifications to this pattern to make it fit me and I promise to include all my notes… at some point.

I have loved this pattern since I purchased this book years ago. I am knitting this pattern with yarn from my and my parents alpacas.

My main color is gray and it is from my alpaca Blue. The white yarn is from my other alpaca Treasure and Lilly. The light gray is from Smoke, Sushi, and Mr Bates. The black yarn is from Ono, Bocote and Star.

I decided to make this a turtle neck because I wanted a fair isle turtle neck sweater. I have been hesitant to make this sweater because of the project pages in Ravelry. HOWEVER I have seen many of these sweaters at Rhinebeck and in person they are wonderful. The pattern is written for sizes 40” (44”, 48”) bust. I have modified it to a 34” bust. This pattern is very easy to modify to make the sizes smaller or larger. If you have sweater knitting experience you should be fine to make adjustments as needed as long as you know your gauge.

My Gauge-
on the fair isle using US5 6.5 sts = 1”
on the body using US4 5 sts =1”
My yarn was produced at a small fiber mill. The main color is a 2 ply sport and the light gray, white and black are a 3 ply sport. I am holding all the yarn doubled.

My Modifications-
Casted on 120 stitches and worked a 2x2 ribbing on the neck on US3 needles.

Yoke- I switched to a US5 and increased to 152 stitches. After Chart “C” I increased to 264 stitches (back 78, sleeve 54, front 78, sleeve 54). Then I did Chart “D”. I did not do the second repeat of Chart “A” (because I was ready to split for the sleeves at that point). I did the increases until I had 296 stitches (back 86, sleeve 62, front 86, back 62).

Then I put the sleeves on holders and worked the body (172 stitches)(172 / 5 =34-1/2”).

I haven’t finished the body because I am thinking about adding a row of fair isle at the bottom if I have enough yarn left.

Body- I split for the sleeves and CO 2 stitches under each arm. So I had a total of
