Notes

This yarn is surprisingly difficult to photograph. The picture of my swatch is probably the closest to the actual color.

8/1: Cast on this morning while I enjoyed my coffee. I’m starting off with the size 42 for the shoulders. I’ll be making some size adjustments after I get through the upper torso. I’m not sure how I’m going to accomplish it, but I’ll figure it out as I go along!

8/6: I was able to join the upper back to the fronts tonight. I’ve had to rip back on both fronts and the back at least once because of stupid mistakes--I need to read more carefully! I’ve decided that in order to increase to the width I need for the bust, I will continue the increases along the front for the entire length of Chart B.

8/14: Through the neckline shaping and starting on the waist decreases. To account for the difference between my upper bust and my full bust, I worked more increases at the neckline than my original size called for. I ultimately worked all the way through neckline chart B, working the number of increases called for in the largest size, to get a full bust measurement of ~46.5.“

9/16: I ended up doing 5 additional sets of increases during the waist shaping in order to get a final hip measurement of ~50”. For the sleeves, I’m following the instructions for the 46” size. I used a 16” circular for picking up the sleeve stitches and working the short row shaping and then switched to magic loop once I finished all of the shaping. So far, so good!

9/20: Just bound off the first sleeve. For the 46” size, the instructions say to knit the sleeve in pattern after the decreases until the sleeve measures 18.5” “from the armhole.” I’m interpreting “from the armhole” as from the underarm, since this is typically where sleeve measurements are taken from. With a 4” cuff, this would result in a 22.5” sleeve--too long for me even though this pattern is meant to have longer sleeves. I instead knit the sleeve until it measured 17” from the underarm and then worked the cuff to get a 21” sleeve.

10/16: I finished this a couple of weeks ago but I was unhappy with the length. It just felt a little too short for me. So I ripped out the collar and button band, undid the ribbing at the bottom of the sweater, and went back and added an additional 2” of length. I’m a lot happier with the longer length (which is ~18” from the underarm), so it was worth the tedium of having to undo and then redo the tubular bind off around the collar.
