Notes

I bought some lovely Koigu in colours very similar to the original pattern sample (which I LOVE), then came home and discovered an ‘orphan’ (mill end) skein of Koigu in perfect peacock colours. I didn’t have enough of it to use it as the contrast colour for the mitts, so I used it for the cuffs, and knit them a bit longer (20 rounds) to show it off.

11/04/10: Done the first mitten, ends woven in and everything! I note that the Koigu is finer than some fingering weight yarns, and the sizing on this is therefore on the small side. I’m confident it will be fine, as the recipient’s hands are smaller than mine, but worth noticing. I worked the mitten cuff and body on 2.5 mm needles, but went up to a 2.75 mm for the thumb, because I hate tight, unbendy thumbs on mitts. Now I’m debating making the second mitten in reversed colours, for even more fun. I do still have plenty of yarn to go either way -- the first mitten took less than 20g of each colour.

20/11/10: DONE, and BLOCKING! Pre-blocking, the mitts were 3.5” wide, which was pretty slender. Post-blocking, they’re 4” wide, a much more comfortable width! Oh, and obviously, I did do reversed colours for the second mitt, and love the effect. I think it works well because the green is barely variegated -- if both colours striped as much as the teal, it might have been more difficult to see the imagery.
