Notes

Planned modifications:

  • knit only 3 repeats of Chart E due to yardage (weigh yarn after each chart/repeat to ensure this)
  • no crochet BO (don’t like the look / fear of running out)

This is going to be a shawl for my wedding. I was about 5% in the pattern with another yarn, but then we got my dress and it didn’t match. I then purchased this most awesome silky yarn. Its colour is close the the dress, if I remember right, but even if not, it’s gorgeous.
Thank you MamaNicoleG for blocking this for me! I would not have gotten this result. Thank you very much!

Added pictures from the actual wedding. Believe it or not, there’s not one picture in which I wear the shawl AND you see my back. Nopety-nope.

Cast off yesterday. I used the yo bind off because I was afraid my yarn might not last if I used the cast off indicated in the pattern.
I was right. Had about 6 meters of yarn left… All I need is to block the baby and then I’m done! Wheee!

Knit the last 4 rows yesterday. During knitting, I was really, really worried I’d run out of yarn. I hope the remaining yarn is enough for a plain stretchy BO. The crochet one the pattern indicates isn’t possible, I’d say.
I’m still happy as can be with the shawl. Must show it my SnB next time – they all were very curious about it last time when I told them about my progress.
Blocking will be another adventure. It’s the first time I block silk. But I read a bit about that in the forums, and it looks like there’s nothing to worry about. Just the normal care one would handle any knitting thing with. I’m also not sure where I can block it – the sofa, overnight on a weekend seems like a good spot. We should have enough towels to cover it. I might need to purchase more pins…

Last but second chart finished. Only six rows and the crochet cast off are left to do.
I thought I had to knit two more charts, but when I checked, it was a lovely surprise to see only one chart!
Knitting less repeats of chart E was definitely a good decision. I have about 9-10 grams of the silk left, and it might work out. If not, I still can try to get some matching silk from DyeForYarn at the Wollefest in April, given they have a booth there again.

Only 2 4 rows of Chart G left, then H and I is one. Chart F was a bad one. I made several mistakes, but I fixed them really good! This chart had me counting stitches, cursing, recounting and sighing in relief, all in one pattern repeat. Maybe I should’ve used a lifeline… But I like living dangerous.

I recalculated my spreadsheet. It looks good, I think.
According to it, I am at 39% progress. Too bad I only have 57 gr. of the 100 gr. skein left… Ahahaha…
I think I’ll do the 3rd repeat of chart E. The shawl will probably be long enough with 3 repeats of the main chart. I tried it on and gently stretched it already hit my bra band. Blocking will add a good amount in length. No problems here!

The Ravellenic Games are a good thing to boost this. I’m currently in chart E2 and this part makes for good tv knitting. So, I manage four rows every evening. That’s good. Still a bit concerned about my yardage.

Picked this up after quite a hiatus because I need the needles. Hey, better a silly reason than no reason, right? Yeah, and I also panicked because OMB only 5 months left to finish it. So, here I am.
I had to, uh, improvise in one row because my stitch markers seperating the repeats were to small and moved under the yo’s. I use bigger ones now, and the fix wasn’t too difficult.
One thing that actually is bothering me is a shift in the middle of the middle leaf :/ I shifted a ktbl one stitch, and it shows… Ah, well, it’s hand-made, after all, and that’s the proof.
Still in absolute love with yarn. More silk will be used in my future.

Chart B makes for good TV knitting. You can even follow what you’re watching :)
I really like the fabric I’m producing - not too airy, but still light enough. And it’s sooooooo soft, really, sometimes I can’t stand it!

Chart A completed, two rows in in Chart B. The transistion went perfect. 2.39 % done - yay! :)
