Notes

Two days ago, Alex’s fingers were cold. We went looking for his hand-warmers from last season, only to discover that we’d lost one. That wasn’t gonna work. So, it was a mad rush to design a new set and get them knit up. These are the final result, after several false starts. He loves them! Hasn’t taken them off yet.

This set is a combination between the mittens pattern from Ann Budd’s Handy Book of Patterns in size 4-6 (used for cast-on numbers, and length), the cable pattern from Natalya, and the clever fold over cuff and thumbs from Arachnid (knit in seed stitch instead of ribbing).

I used every last scrap of a single ball of Debbie Bliss cashmerino DK. I actually had to knit the thumb of the 2nd mitt first, and then knit the fold over cuff until I ran out (4 rows shy of finishing). I spliced the cut end of the 1st mitt to the end of my live yarn on the 2nd mitt, and knit the second one until it was the exact same length of the 1st one. Total rows worked: 20 + cast-off.
