Notes

Second attempt at these socks. The first didn’t fit, way too small. I thought she had smaller feet than she did.

I updated my stash/tools/projects/queue a few days ago and was delighted to see that I had finished ONE sock already in the correct size and the second was a few inches along already. The needles are still with the project as well as the yarn still in homemade containers for easy handling while stranding.

Even better is I have enough time before Christmas to actually finish these and drop them in the mail. So I have selected this project to cease hibernation and pick it back up.

Of course my printer didn’t like the 650 mile relocation as it is printing every other line and I do prefer print for notes and alas my original pattern is AWOL.

Hopefully I can knit this within the same gauge as before and if I recall the first socks were pulled top tight while stranding. It was an ambitious first sock project that came out perfect outside of the inability for me to find someone to wear a size 5ish sock.

Was able to quickly jump back in, I even left a safety pin to mark the back needle in my wisdom seven years ago. Yeah…just looked at the start date and couldn’t believe it has been that long!

I almost completed the first chart yesterday and was excited to start the heel when I noticed that something was off on the pattern and it wasn’t any of my new work. Apparently I had messed up seven years ago and just assumed it was perfect and picked it up where I had left off.

Easy fix, I only had to unravel everything but the ribbing and restart the color work. I’m not discouraged but since I have learned continental knitting I have been attempting to strand with one color in each hand and the single cable with two needles was tangling everything and desperately slowing my progress. So I plopped my dpns in place and have been knitting up a storm all morning.

DONE!! Wove in the ends and dropped in the wash. Only took me seven years…lol.

I cannot wait to gift these for Christmas. They fit me perfectly and my foot is very similar to my MILs so they should be fine. A little stretch is left and the calves are a bit bigger than mine so I expect a decent snug fit.

Since they are wool I expect they will be toasty warm for her feet. If I was certain she’d just wear them around the house, shoeless, I’d add some non-slip to the bottoms but since I cannot be certain of this I don’t want to make them unwearable in shoes.
