Notes

The designer’s sample project for this pattern is here.

All yarns I used for this project are pure acrylic and made in Turkey.

Gauge (in garter stitch, unblocked):
20 sts to 10 cm
40 rows to 10 cm

To spare you complex and risky calculations, 20 g (60 m) of each of the six colours should be more than enough for this blanket. I would expect a full 50 g skein of each to be enough for a blanket of a more decent size, something like 70-75 cm. (I think there is at least one suitable pink shade of YarArt, but I used the Petek yarn just because I already had it in my stash).

It took me a total of 23 g (69 m) of the contrast colour (the Kartopu Benekli Bebe) yarn for the blanket itself, and an extra 12 g (36 m) for the border (but I worked one more round than the pattern required).

My blanket here is just a sample to test the pattern, so if I want to make it bigger for some actual baby, I’ll widen the border.

I used the backward loop increase in the border (with the designer’s permission). The photos of the corner show what it looks like in garter stitch. If you want to try it but are not familiar with it, please keep in mind that you can’t have two such increases next to each other inside a row; you need a regular stitch between them.

The bottom photo shows the Purl vs Knit test using this cast-on method. So if you purl every row in garter stitch (the blue sample), you can’t change your colours “invisibly” on the same side as when you knit every row (the green and black sample). I had to do this test because my local custom is to purl every row, so I had to adjust the pattern to that.
