So I cast on the chocolate gathered pullover:-)
Contiguous top-down seems the way to go with this, well it’s the way I want to go with it. This is not a hard sweater to reverse engineer so off to the races!
- CO 2, 2, 50, 2, 2 My stitch and row gauge are much smaller than the patterns so I am knitting the largest size hoping for about a 42 to 44 chest. Being that it is top down means I will knit to fit and might have to adapt the cable pattern to be a bit bigger as my stitches are smaller. (I am slipping the first stitch of every row.)
This will be my first attempt at contiguous sleeves but I think I have a grasp of the situation!?
Feb.17th
As you can see from the photo’s that things are going quite swimmingly! I am enjoying the “contiguous” sleeves and am glad that I have tried it. Raglans are not all that flattering on a larger person so this is great!
The yarn just keeps giving! Only 72 grams used and I am 8 inches into the design? 2 cones might be enough? (After all this is the widest, most yarn consuming part, right?)
Anyway, I am pleased as punch. I am almost at the part where I need to separate the sleeves from the body:-)
Feb. 22nd
2 cones are going to be enough for this…even in my size? I am amazed and still am working from the first cone! (Number 2 is in the mail to me!) I am about 4 inches shy of completing the body, which does include the upper part of the sleeves! (10 inches down from the under arm CO!) That IS great mileage!
It’s a ton of boring knitting but perfect for the curling season! Almost 9 hours a day of guilt free knitting time if I watch every match:-)

Cone made it to my house in record time! 7 days flat:-)
Back to knitting this yummy thing!
March 12th
It’s so done and so freaking soft and comfy! It’s a tad too big/wide but I don’t care…I LOVE it!
I made the shoulders a bit too wide which made the whole sweater a bit too wide… no matter as I am enamored with it:-)
I put a smaller version of the cable pattern on the wrist which gives it a slightly flared look to it.
Next time I will try to be a tad more accurate in my measurements but contiguous is a very cool way of making a sweater and I WILL do it again!!
March 16 Things I did and/or would do differently.
-
I CO 2, 2, 50, 2, 2 (I should have cast on 40 or so for the back. I ended up crab stitching it so it wouldn’t hang off the shoulders.)
-
I did about 27 shoulder increases, and should have only done about 20 - 22.
-
To start the sleeves I worked increases every row for about 1 1/2 inches and then went to every 2nd row from there on.
-
I CO 14 stitches under each arm
-
Decreased every 6 rows on the sleeves, every inch, all the way down to the cuff.
-
Placed a smaller cable pattern in the center of the sleeve starting at about 14 inches down from under arm. (Worked sleeves in the round.)
April 30th
I threw my cashmere Gathered pullover into the washer with a regular load, put the machine on normal, selected warm/cold, shut the door, put a natural detergent in and walked away. (It’s a front loader.) Later, when the load was done the sweater was just fine so why not put it in the dryer too? So I did!
The sweater turned out amazing and sooo much softer than it was before! It did shrink a bit but mostly in the width, where I wanted it to. It did shrink a tad in length and is a bit to short for my taste but it was a bit short to start with. (I ran out of yarn!) Sill very wearable but next time I will remember to make it less wide and a bit longer to start with!
