Notes

Saw this with a knitting friend at knitting group yesterday and decided this was the ideal project to cast on with my precious Amsterdam souvenir yarn from last year.

April 15, 2019

Finished second shoulder panel in light blue-grey

April 16, 2019

Started front - I assume my row gauge is off, I will probably have to knit more than the given rows - we will see.

April 17, 2019

Finished front, did 7 garter ridges instead of 6. Tried on the neck, fixing the Icord with a stitch marker, and it fits over my big 60 cm head (though I made it longer, i.e. app. 40 cm.

Measured my arm circumference which is about 38 cm, so a sleeve circumference of just 22 cm seems very tight. So I currently plan to cast on addition stitche below the armhole to make it a little wider, because I think I will not reach a good fit even with really aggressive blocking.

April 19, 2019

Picked up 60 stitches for sleeves

April 20, 2019

Finished sleeve no 1 - after the 15th garter ridge, I changed to the Hedgehog yarn, did another garter ride and 1 row before starting the Icord bind-off. Goes about exactly to my elbow before blocking. I also switched to 5 mm needles with the contrast yarn.

April 21, 2019

Finished! Was only 29 cm unblocked, managed to block app. 25 cm length out of it, using my garden chair which is made out of metal mesh, so the air should be able to circulate and it will dry fast, hopefully!

April 22, 2019

Finished blocking and took in-wear photos - love it!
I was able to block it to app. 50 cm length, which is great!

I did 16 garter ridges after sleeve seperation for the body and 7 garter ridges before seperating the arms.

The armholes are a little on the tight side, so I would probably do 8 ridges next time. However, it might be a good idea to go for a smaller armhole if you do not add sleeves.

Mods I will do with my second (yes, there will definitely be more of these!):

Do not do Icord cast on, but a normal cast on and add the ICord later. Though the Icord is great for stability, I found it somewhat restricting and was afraid the neck might be too small for me (it is not).

Do not leave life stitches for shoulder panels, but just pick up stitches from the cast off edge. I think this will add stability to the shoulders.

Do 8 garter ridges for arm holes instead of just 7

I ended up using app. 70 g of the Hedgehog fibres yarn and about 35 g of the plain blue sockyarn- so I definitely would have had enough from 1 skein of yarn if I did make the sleeves a little shorter.
