Notes

I felt a quiet attraction for this yarn when I first laid eyes on it. I didn’t buy it right away, but instead walked around the entire festival and then came back for it right before I left (this is actually how I make almost all of my purchases, yarn or otherwise). I adore the combination of colors, and after securing this lovely skein I was even tempted to buy other yarns in similar colorways.

I didn’t have a plan when I bought it, though, since I just wanted a souvenir from my first fiber festival, and it became more proof that I shouldn’t buy yarn without at least some idea of a pattern in mind. This has languished in my yarn collection for nearly a year waiting for the right pattern.

I’d actually favorited Paon months ago, but didn’t make the connection between the yarn and the pattern at the time. When I started looking for a pattern, I was really concerned that the variegation in the yarn would compete with many lace patterns, and Paon caught my attention because of the mesh-like openwork at the border. I think this will break up any large spots of color.

Now that I’ve caked the yarn and started knitting, I’m pretty confident the variegation won’t be a problem.

Technical Details
I used a Boye aluminum US D/3 crochet hook to cast on and a ChiaoGoo RED Lace circular needle (32”) to knit. I picked Dyna-Mites 8/0 seed beads in Amber. I’m using the Oral B Superfloss method of stringing beads.

Progress
01/25/2014 - Two months later, I finally got around to blocking this. I put down today as the completion date, since I don’t really consider a project complete until it’s blocked, but tagged it as a 2013 project since all of the knitting happened last year.

11/25/2013 - Finished knitting. All that remains is blocking.

11/23/2013 - Finished Chart C and started Chart D. Put the recommended stitch markers back in to keep track of repeats for decreasing.

11/22/2013 - Midway through Chart C I decided to ditch the stitch markers. The pattern is dead simple to read at this point, and the stitch markers were just slowing me down.

11/16/2013 - Finished Chart C in the car during a three-hour drive to a new apartment in a new state.

11/3/2013 - Finished Chart B and started Chart C.

09/26/2013 - After taking a break to re-read Harry Potter, get in to Downton Abbey, and start a sewing project, I’ve finished Chart A.

08/14/2013 - Knit first two rows of Chart A.

08/13/2013 - Cast on and knit first two rows.

08/12/2013 - Attempted to cast on while re-watching A Chorus Line, but didn’t have the correct crochet hook size and severely overestimated my ability to count while watching musical theater.
