Working out what I am doing and sharing notes on the process/materials and methodology as I go along.

Yarn
Supplied by Nimu The Langstrath base, comprising of SuperWash Merino, 10% Cashmere and 10% nylon was a colourway especially dyed for P3 Retreat in October.

We all had one supplied in our Goodie Bag, but realising my sample was going to take a lot more than one skein if I worked it to full size, I swopped two more skeins with very happy campers.

Methodology
my thought process !!

I charted out a lovely Staghorn stitch from The Knitting Stitch Bible by Maria Parry-Jones.

I commenced knitting this, and the stitch definition and colour was perfect. It was too symmetrical though and I really wanted to get away from this, so added a few moss stitches on the left hand, which seemed a little “sad” !!

Not wanting to unpick the work I had already done on the sample, but loving what I was doing, I decided to cast on a basic edging, knit to the length I had knitted on the sample and then start working them together. If I didn’t like the experiment, then I only had to take it back a couple of rows.

I chose the Shoreline Edging from 150 Trims and Edgings by Lisa Stanfield.

Just difficult enough to add interest, but easy enough, if I used a method of following the rows without losing my place, to provide an absorbing project.

I am finding that knitting it is really interesting and absorbing.

Because of the unexpected changes at the edge of the moss stitch, I have to concentrate, so it is becoming what I classify as “mindful” knitting.

But then I realised that it was going to be not a particularly stylish scarf to wear. Then on Facebook I found this pictorial instruction, which I have uploaded here for reference.

It reminded me of a Celtic Knot, so is therefore probably the way I will choose to wear this, when completed as it is going to be long and skinny.

Unfortunately I do not have an attribution for this, so if someone knows who designed it, I would love to thank them.

Row 1: K-tbl, P1 4 times, k4, 2/2 RC, 2/2 LC, k4, P1, k-tbl 3 times, P1.
Row 2: P 31 times.
Row 3: K-tbl, P1 4 times, k2, 2/2 RC, P4, 2/2 LC, k2, P1, k-tbl twice, k1, k-tbl, k1.
Row 4: P 31 times.
Row 5: K-tbl, P1 4 times, 2/2 RC, P6, k2, 2/2 LC, P1, k-tbl twice, k1, k-tbl, k1.
Row 6: P 31 times.

Slip 2 stitches to cable needle and hold in front; k2; k2 from cable needle.

Slip 2 stitches to cable needle and hold in back; k2; k2 from cable needle.

Ssk2po – slip 2st one at a time knitwise, insert left-hand needle in the front of these st, K2 tog, slip resulting st onto left hand needle slip next st over it then slip it back onto right hand needle Cast on 14 sts.

2nd and WS rows: K2, p remaining stitches
3rd row: Sl 1, K5, ssk2po, K2, yo, K2 tog twice, K1 (14 st)
