Pattern is well-written, easy to follow for a toe-up-sock-newbie, but I think stitch count after heel turn is wrong. I rather like the texture that this pattern makes, but I didn’t choose the right colorway to show it off properly.

1.5.12 - First attempt at toe-up socks. The figure-8 cast-on is awkward and annoying.

1.7.12 - Five repeats of pattern on foot. Getting ready to start the next bit…

Not sure if I did the heel turn right. Followed the directions, but I don’t have 56 stitches to knit across the heel with. After final turn (p6,m1,p1,w&t) and I’m back on a knit row. Knit across the 36st there (the other side of the gusset holds 28st). We’ll see if this works. If not, then I’ll have to rip it back and see if I can find help. It’s a good thing I have found 7 DPNs of this size…

1.8.12 - Just started on the leg. It looks like what I did as noted above more or less worked. This whole short-row-heel-to-heel-flap thing is really quite clever, and the whole no-picking-up-stitches-along-the-side-of-the-heel-flap thing is really a very compelling reason to do toe-up socks.

Finished first sock. Did a 2x2 rib at the cuff because 1x1 is tedious and my hand/arm is tired. Double-wrapped bindoff. Total of 12 repeats of pattern + 10 rows cuff. The foot is actually probably slightly long, but oh well, should still work. I didn’t really like the way the pattern looked along the foot, but like it better once it started going around the whole leg. Don’t think I chose a great colorway for this pattern though shrug

2.24.12 - Started second sock. Used Knitpicks video this time for the figure-8 caston; this one leaves the initial slipknot on the needle, which makes it a bit annoying when going back to tighten the toe stitches. However, it wasn’t as fiddly and annoying as I remember. I’ll just have to keep practicing.

2.27.12 - Just finished second sock and weaving in. The heel worked out the same as the first sock - I think the 56st is a typo and should be 36st. Overall, I think this sock went smoother than the first one did.

These socks are among my least favorite - a combination of the color, the fact that the pattern isn’t particularly visible, and they’re kind of baggy - it’s not really ribbed enough. Should have knit on half or one size smaller needles, but I didn’t know enough about socks when I made them to know it. They’re still going, and they do get worn though.
