3/23/2014 - They’re a smidge baggy, but I’d rather have them too big than too snug as I’m learning to knit socks without any real pattern in front of me. Oh, and they’re probably a bit longer than I needed to make them, but not a big deal. With them being a little large, maybe the length will just scrunch down around my ankles. These aren’t “oversocks”-big (like how I’ve knit a number of worsted weight socks in the past, to be worn over other socks). I’m starting to wonder if the Dream in Color isn’t a tiny bit…itchy? It’s fairly soft in the hand, but these aren’t the softest socks, even after blocking. I hope I still like the yarn - I’ve ordered enough more of it!
Oh, and fresh off of finishing these, and wanting something fairly mindless to keep working on when it’s not good time to work on the two different shawls I have on the needles, I’ve started another pair of fingering weight socks! Crazy me! The new ones are using Verdant Gryphon Eidos yarn, and I’m taking a risk dropping down to CO56 stitches for the same size needles. We’ll see how they fair…
3/11/2014 - First pics were uploaded from the phone during bright light - hadn’t realized how washed out they look. The colors in the Dream in Color are super rich and deep…great looking stuff! Making great progress on the first sock - more than doubled it’s length last nite, even getting a couple rounds past the waste yarn worked in for the afterthought heel.
3/9/2014 - WAS going to make the Java socks with the brown, then thought about doing the Mojo socks with the Tidal….started per the Mojo socks (but using Judy’s Magic Loop CO), upping to 64 stitches per how Pleximo did hers…but three rows into the “turn sock inside out and start ribbing” I realized I didn’t want to go this route. It seemed like they were going to be SUPER stretchy - too much so…plus I really wanted to enjoy the color pattern of the Dream in Color Tidal. So instead it looks like I’m doing 16 rows of Tidal, 8 rows of Chocolate Amargo for striping. I’ll probably pull the heel turn from the Mojo pattern and see how that works out.
