4/5/2014 - Perfect fit!! Need to watch how I’m picking up extra stitches to avoid holes on sides of the heel - sometimes it’s looking a little stretched/snug. Too aggressive with the picking up stitches?

Definitely need to stop going so crazy with the calf ribbing….less is more in this case. Compared to other socks where I’d only done a short ribbing section, these look a little less tidy at the top (although they ARE nice and stretchy).

Love how these are a little tweedy looking, and they’re very warm.

Did the “usual” (for now) figure 8 cast on, increased every other row til they fit the width of the foot, knit a non-stop tube (didn’t even put in waste yarn for heel placement), ribbed at the top of the calf, then did Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off. Went back afterwards to snip the yarn, pick up stitches while pulling out the snipped yarn where the heel will get worked in, then knit an afterthought heel (decreasing every other round). Very happy with the finished result.

And since these were Aran weight, they knit up super fast. Each sock took a full ball of the Cork, plus between the two of them most of the Soot.

3/29/2014 - Tried US5, CO 30. Too wide for toe tip with that many cast on, and inconveniently dense to knit fast on US5.

Went with:
US7
CO 16 in Soot
Increase every other round to 36.
Knit one more round in Soot, switching to Cork with the next round.

Finished body (minus heel) of first sock in 24hrs!
