I’ve always been intrigued with Gudrun Johnston’s traditional Shetland shawl construction and this pattern has been in my queue for so long.

14 Aug 2011: The centre garter stitch triangle is quite enjoyable with the yo loops and goes really fast. I decided against doing the larger size since I may run out of yarn. I can always knit it again. I’m even thinking beads…

16 Aug 2011: Started the Bird’s Eye Lace and worked half the first repeat of the chart. Still enjoying it!

17 Aug 2011: Doing second repeat of Bird’s Eye Lace.

22 Aug 2011: Started the edging today. Just a little bit worried that I don’t have enough yarn to finish this but I’m hopeful.

23 Aug 2011: Finished, just need to block it. Followed other Raveler’s lead and picked up stitches along purl ridges of either side of the Bird’s Eye Lace then knitted a couple of rows before binding off.

I will definitely knit this again but with a lofty yarn, definitely merino and without bamboo or silk!
