My sister has long admired the cardigan I made for my daughter and wanted one for herself. She’s small so knitting her a full garment should not take time. I got her to sit down and go through pattern books and PDFs and this is what she settled for.
This will also be the first time I am using Sundara Yarn Worsted Merino for a garment and I cannot wait!
Planned modifications:
- lengthen the body and sleeves
- make the sleeves less billowy
- add buttonholes on the patterned rib of the body, maybe 4 or 5 depending on what my sister feels like
29 Oct 10: Cast on!
4 Nov 10: Knitting up really nicely. I separated the body and sleeves this morning and working on the 24 rows before the patterned section. But I think I will knit on some more since my sister wanted it longer.
6 Nov 10: I reached the desired length of the body before the edging so I switched to pattern 1. Still on the second skein so I think I can make this to full size as per my sister’s wishes.
8 Nov 10: Joined 3rd skein at the 6th repeat of the bottom border. I’m doing at least 7 repeats for added length.
12 Nov 10: Picked up for the sleeves, picked up 5 extra stitches at the underarm. Decreased 2 on the first round. Decreased one more on the next round then began stitch pattern 2. My sister tried it on today and it looks okay so far.
27 Nov 2010: Knitting is done. But not in time to wash, block, dry, sew buttons on and give to my sister as a gift. Still, happy to complete this and move on to the next project. Cardigan is soaking right now.
Absolutely delightful knit, the yarn is amazing, the pattern is more a recipe open to variations than a strict instructions.
