10 Jun 2011: cast on in the car on the way to see the Abu Dhabi ladies.

Decided to use Cristi Brockway’s gusset decrease on her Breaking Hearts socks, i.e. at the sole instead of the sides.

11 Jun 2011: Frogged to the start of the gusset decrease as I needed to fudge the stitches. Moved the markers 5 stitches wider on either side of the heel stitches so that I end up with 32 sts after the gusset decrease at the bottom of the foot. Brought the WIP along to WWKIP in Dubai today.

25 Jun 2011: Technically I have finished a pair, but the first one (bottom photo) did not fit well. I had plenty of yarn so I could do another full pair without running out. I cast on 60sts, did 5 rows of twisted 1x1 rib, separated for the heel flap which I did in plain stockinette and placed the gusset at the bottom of the foot. Joined in the round to knit down the foot and decrease for the toe to 20 stitches then kitchenered. Easy right?

1 Jul 2011: Just missed the SSCQ2 by a day but glad they’re done so I can move on to other WIPs.

My daughter says the socks are still a bit loose. I think next time I will stick to 60sts but go down to 2.25mm, or even 2mm.
