Notes

Casting on Old Norwegian into 1x1 ribbing for about 1.5 inches ( 11 rows — ribbing is looser gauge) then into pattern. 56 stitches. Using my size 3 metal Chaigoo sock needles for a change of pace as just finished a project doing 2 at a time magic loop.

Colorway is a self-striping yarn that aligns more with USA worsted than Aran. Wash cold line dry on label - website says can machine dry but I wouldn’t.

Planning to do heel over 60% stitches (follow one size up) while continuing normal stitch pattern on remaining 40% as hubby wears a wide and his heels wear out fast — I think because commercial socks don’t do ‘wide’.

October 27, 2017

Scrapping first take. It can stretch WAY to wide. Just far too wide. There won’t be a good snug fit. :/

I’m going to restart this toe up so I can reality check it on his foot template more easily. Try for 48 so I can still do Latte.

Great swatch guys. Really useful. (Mild applause)

Wow different methods different tension. Sure — nominally still 6 stitches to inch but you add .25 stitches over four and you’ve got problems. More than .25 and wowza. It’s visually tighter on the 3s from my kit va the DPNS in same company. Weird.

Scrapping Latte again as I would need to reswatch for toe up (some day!) and going plain SS.

So. Toe up standard M1L M1R toe until 26 per side. Magic loop 2 at a time with chaigoo size 3 40 inch.

FLK heel over 1/9/8/9/1

November 1, 2017

Turned both FLK heels during last two episodes of Stranger Things.

November 1, 2017

Knit enough to get past his heel maybe 7 rows and switched to size 2 and doing slipped 3x1 rubbing for leg.

Row 1 K3 P1
Row 2 K1 Sl 1 K1 P1

After a few inches will switch up to 2.5s for wider part of leg. He’s got over a one inch difference between his ankle and his widest foot width and recovers it at cuff. Woof. Not trusting this to not sag without some measures in place and while I considered a reverse gusset and increase — corset shape — didn’t want to risk a sock too narrow to slip on.

November 3, 2017

Scrap the ribbing - tink tink. Trusting to needle changes.

November 6, 2017

Up to 2.5s for this section may go as low as 1s for the ribbing to keep it near and tidy. We shall see.

November 7, 2017

Drop back to 2s to start ribbing for cuff. About 7 inches tall from very tip of heel.

November 8, 2017

Finally in 1x1 ribbing. Almost done. One more check on ribbing length and bind off time!!

November 8, 2017

Sewn bind off. 52 inch tail —no joke that was a lucky guess had a few inches left over.

November 8, 2017

Needs a wash and worn photos. But bind off is stretchy enough so ends woven in.
