5 June 2012: Got an invitation to a baby shower to be held 23 June 2012. Don’t they know they need to give knitters a bit more notice? The shower is in Ferndale, Maryland (I won’t be going), so I’m going to have to knit, finish, and mail this. The grandfather-to-be (Larry) is my cousin; mother-to-be (Stacey) is his only child. I have no idea when the baby’s due, gender, nothing. I’m going with multi-colored yarn and an easy, quick pattern. Still debating the size: 0-3 months? 3-6 months? The latter probably would be best for a child born this summer.

Once again, I’ve joined the sweater under the arm and knitted the bottom half in the round (except for a fake “flap” at the bottom) so that this is a pullover rather than a cardigan. The buttons down the garter strip on the side are just dummies. The first three buttons and the bottom button are buttons that can be fastened, but next time I won’t bother with the bottom buttonhole; no one’s going to button/unbutton it.

Sweater is finished. I wove ends and sewed on buttons under grandma-to-be’s nose on a visit to Tennessee, then gave her the sweater to deliver. The yarn is lovely to knit with and feels very soft. I hope it holds up well to washing (no chance to block this one). Used 8 grams of a second skein.

The baby’s due in late August. He’ll be named Ryan.
