Notes

THIS CAN BE MUCH EASIER THAN WRITTEN! See my notes below.

I’m using a heavier weight and a larger hook than the pattern calls for.
Main Color = White
Color A (Pink on pattern) = Soft Red
Color B (Apricot) = Perfect Peach
Color C (Yellow) = Silly Sprite
Color D (Mint) = Soft Lilac
Color E (Blue) = Cool Baby

Pattern has three rows in color, crocheted into back loops:

Row 1 (WS)
Row 2 (RS)
Row 3 (WS)

Then Row 4 (RS) is slip stitches worked into both loops of Row 3 using white.

Then Row 5 (WS) is the first of three rows in the next color, crocheted into back loops; Row 5 is worked in the back loops of Row 3.

But Row 5 is hard to execute into the back loops of Row 3 because the SS of Row 4 are in the way.

So skip Row 4. Work Row 5 right after Row 3 (pay attention, though: work 3 and 5 on the wrong side). Then work your SS Row 4 on the right side, being sure you catch both loops of the stitches of Row 3.

This is much easier to stitch, and the results look identical to doing the pattern as written.

But don’t get carried away and work all the afghan’s DC rows, then plan to SS afterwards. It’ll be nearly impossible to work the SS into the center of the finished afghan. Working them when you’re only one row past where they go is easy.

And if this doesn’t make sense to you, try the pattern on your gauge swatch. I think it will make sense then.

This did not actually take full skeins of all these colors, but I’ll have to weigh remnants at a later date. The “.75” shown is an overestimate of yardage used.
