Notes

January 2012

Liked this pattern SOOOO much I did it again. This time in Foxfire Designs Flock Sock. Followed Sarah’s suggestion and repeated the first two cabling rounds again. I like the depth of this hat better.

The cabling is still fiddly though. Just suck it up. You’ll be glad you did.

Really liked this pattern…a few errors in row counting, documented elsewhere.

After I began knitting I realized that Sarah, the designer, lives in Central CA and has no need to keep her ears warm. Here in Central PA if you like your ears and want to keep them, you need a hat that actually covers them. I knit one extra pattern repeat of cables, and a few extra brim rows. I may even knit TWO pattern repeats the next time. You have to fuss a bit to get the cables to work properly with the extra repeats, but it is worth it.

The cables are a pain, and I had to use TWO cable needles rather than none, which is my preference--but there is too much going on with these cables.

ETA:
Here’s an oopsie…I apparently completely made up that Sarah lives in Central CA. (What was I thinking!???) She lives in Missouri and really does need to protect her ears. She also posted a comment that explains two extra pattern repeats would eliminate the fussing I did with the cables.

Totally going to do this the next time.
And, yes, despite, or because of, the challenging cables, I liked it so much that there is going to be a next time using Foxfire Designs Cormo/mohair natural yarn - yea Sheep Shares.
