Notes

I got the pattern from torunnb’s Ravelry project page: Votter/mittens, with the English translation copied below to make it easier for me to find again.

This was a fun project -- I loved doing the thumb as a flap instead of a gusset. I made the hands a little too long, so next time I’ll experiment with smaller needles and start the decreases sooner. Even with the added length, they seem to fit Rorie’s hands fine, and look ever so cute.

English translation of pattern from torunnb’s project page:
English
Good, simple, easy mittens.

Size (1-3), 6-8.

Cast on (32), 40 sts,
Rib: k2, p2 for 2” or more.
Then knit for (1”), 1.5” before thumb hole.

Thumb hole row(right hand): Needle 1, 2, 3, {(8), 10 sts on each}, knit, needle 4, knit (6), 8 sts on to scrap yarn, then knit all sts again.
Left hand: Needle 1, k 2, then knit (6), 8 sts on to scrap yarn, knit these sts again. Needle 2, 3 and 4: knit.

Knit the hand (3”), 4”, before decrease:
Decrease

Round. Needle 1, k to the three last sts, ssk, k1. Needle 2, k1, k2tog, k . Needle 3, repeat needle 1. Needle 4, repeat needle 2.
Round: knit. Repeat 1. and 2. until 12 sts left, pull tread through and thighten.
Thumb: Pick up (14), 20 sts and knit in the round for (1.5”), 2”, Decrease round, k2tog , = (7), 10 sts, pull tread through and tighten.
