I’ve gone off the deep end, folks--I started a sweater for myself! It’s a cardigan knit top-down without steeks. I originally thought I was allergic (or at least sensitive) to wool, so this is being done in machine-washable cotton.
2/13/16
Frogged for a host of reasons. Restarting a size up
7/1/15: …every single time I think I have the sleeves done on this thing, I find an error 5 pattern repeats back. Hoping to be done before the month is out…
11/19/14: We’ve surpassed the bust shaping and entered waist shaping. At that point, I made this little discovery: the pattern isn’t quite right:
PATTERN CORRECTION: (k to 2 before marker, ssk, sm, k2tog) twice, k to end.
As a precaution, I placed safety anchor lines of 2-ply waste yarn through the row directly before I began waist shaping. I don’t 100% trust myself to not miscount along the way, so I felt it made sense to place anchors of waste yarn every time the pattern changes. That way, if I screw up too bad to tink it out, I know exactly what row my tearing back ends on.
11/17/14: …at least 19 cast-ons…minimum…I quit counting. After getting many, many rows in, I realized my gauge was off by a good 4-5 inches (16 st = 4” in stockinette was recommended; I was more around 20-21 st.) Considering I err closer to the busty-side of my frame and that gauge would make it too tight, I moved up to my 8s.
On the 8s, my gauge is more like 17 st across the 4”. I decided that was close enough as a medium would be a bit big on me based on what I read for measurements, so I have at least an inch of wiggle room. I’m also a tad off on rows (should be 22 rows = 4”; I’m more like 20-21). I’m rather short-trunked, though, so this shouldn’t be a problem; I’m also confident it’ll block a bit longer than it’s laying now, so I’m not worried.
But, hey! I got my sleeves onto waste yarn!!!!! Major milestone on this sweater = met!
