Notes

I often get teased about how many white sweaters I knit! I love white for summer and I’m very happy with this new chunky lace pullover, perfect for chilly summer evenings.

My blog post here with more rose pictures, modifications below.

I made three modifications to bring down the size a bit. First, I used a size US 9 needle (pointy Addi Lace, perfect choice here) instead of the recommended US 10.5. I like the way the stitches and lace look when they are more tightly knit, and I knew the tighter gauge would make the sweater smaller.

Second, I knit the sleeves in stockinette and not the fish net lace pattern. I loved the way the fishnet looked, but halfway through the first sleeve I knew it would be too bulky for me. So I ripped it out and reknit the sleeve using the exact same stitch counts and increases. However, if I were to do it again I would make the sleeves slimmer so I would not have to do what I did below:

Thirdly, when I stitched the pieces together and tried it on I had mixed feelings about the oversized fit. I loved the roomy body but not the roomy sleeves. I turned it inside out and machine stitched the sleeves smaller making a one inch seam. I reinforced this seam a few times and finally added a zig zag stitch. Then held my breath and cut off the excess and voila, got the fit I was looking for.

So that’s the saga, and now I am very happy with my new sweater!
