This is my first CAL-- exciting!
It’s also my first time making a sampler afghan!

I’m using only stash yarn, trying to make a dent in my collection of pinks and purples. Purple was my favorite color as a child, and pink and purple together were a joy to my little-girl heart. Though my tastes have changed somewhat over the years, I think this can still make a pretty afghan-- maybe for the bedroom more than the living rough, though. (g)

Motifs used:

  1. Amber Waves

August 10th--
I’ve been surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed this project, so far. I’m still a little concerned over how easily they’ll join together. I think I’ll have to fudge things to get the stitch counts to line up correctly, but making each square has been lots of fun, and I see more samplers in my future.

I’m considering adding in a few more squares to make the afghan larger, but I guess I’ll wait and see how it looks with all twelve squares, first. If I have enough yarn left over, this could be a good opportunity to try out a fancy, deep border…

October 10th--
I decided I wanted the blanket to be a little bigger, but I didn’t want to wait around for more square suggestions (even though the CAL has been extended, I think). So I selected a few squares from a couple books in my library.

After working a fairly wide border on my last afghan (Citric Acid), I was somewhat burned out on borders. Also, I didn’t have tons of yarn left-- or at least I wasn’t confident that I’d have plenty-- so I didn’t add a “fancy, deep border”, after all. I worked border #102 from Edie Eckman’s Around the Corner Crochet Borders book. However, I did my own color scheme (different color each round) and added an extra row of the alternating sc and ch-1.
