Notes

Test knit of this cool vest for Jimiknits! This is a very well-written and thorough pattern. The layout is clean and beautiful and she uses different colors to indicate size so all I had to do to follow the pattern was look for the medium color of green to know what instruction to follow. Learned a lot with this project!

Had to use the top hole of the Addi for tension because with acrylic and it being Aran weight, it was too tight using the normal tension hole. It helps to unwind the yarn so there’s no extra tension at all. Acrylic doesn’t stretch right, so I had to start out with a light hand laying in the beginning of the yarn and slowly crank for about 3 rows before I could comfortably pick up speed. The Addi worked with this yarn, but would occasionally have an issue. Instead of trying to fix, it was quicker to just start over. I had less trouble with the Cream colored yarn than the Spa colorway. Go figure. This brand yarn was chosen because I’ve had experience with it in the past and it is soft for acrylic and really doesn’t pill.

So adjustments were made to accommodate a difference in row count to pattern specifications in order to get the correct length pieces.

Pattern gauge with Worsted weight is 15 sts & 20 rows = 4”

This Aran weight yarn on the Addi is 14 sts & 17 rows = 4”

So, to calculate rows,

17 rows / 4” = 4.25 rows per 1 inch

For a 17.25” piece,
take 17.25” / 4.25 = 4.06 x 17 rows = 69 rows

For a 12.5” piece,
Take 12.5” / 4.25 = 2.94 x 17 rows = 50 rows

Used US 10 and 8 with 32” and 20” cables

All the pieces are knit up on the machine! On to the joining process next!

Joined the Addi machine knitted pieces! It was my first time really working a lot of mattress stitch. Very cool results!

Finished the merging of the top ends, hems, hem ribbing this evening.

This morning I sewed the shoulder seams and wove in the ends. With the seams sewn, the vest fits! Now doing the collar. So excited I’m almost done and can’t wait to see the finished product!
