Notes

I’ve envied ladies on hot summer days at the Ren Faire with snazzy leather belt pouches for their fans and decided to make a thrifty version.

How I did the gray one: Chain to fit the hinge end of your fan (mine is 1 3/4 inches). Sc around outer loops of chain to make an oval base. Sc or dc in-the-round to make a sleeve, increasing on each end of oval every few inches to fit the widening girth of fan, until piece almost fully covers fan (my fan needed 5 sets of inc.) You can skip sts to make a netting affect. To make strap, sc halfway around piece, then continue sc in rows until strap is the length you want the pouch to hang from your belt (mine is 7 inches.) I didn’t like the ragged row edges, so I smoothed them out with sc down the side, around the pouch opening, and up the other side. For belt loop, fold top of strap over to fit the width of your belt (mine is 2 inches) and use tail of yarn to sew.

The brown one is made with #4 medium cotton yarn, sc and dc, and minor modifications.
