Vitals:

  • 64 stitches
  • Judy’s magic cast on
  • k2tog bind off

Cast on during our flight to Canada. First pair of toe up socks but knit on DPNs so lost all the trying on benefits - didn’t have to pick up stitches at the heel though which was nice.

Didn’t like the heel instructions, found them quite unclear.

Abandoned the mitred squares after I finished the fourth one on the first round and realised that they wouldn’t be big enough. Continued slip stitch pattern instead and put in a few short rows across the first two needles to balance out the difference in row gauge. Had actually meant to do the pattern all the way around the leg but I forgot!

Second sock I decided had to match the first. This turned out to involve a lot of ends (~30). The end result was a pretty close match, but the mystery splices in the later portions of the yarn were not entirely helpful.

Finished the knitting the day before we left Canada which just left the ends (all of them!) to weave in post-honeymoon.

Mr. Saff took the artistic photo with the rings whilst playing with the camera on the Via train from Toronto to Jasper.
