Nov 14: Finished! I love these. They’re still slightly big at the wrists and lumpy, but I’m so happy with them. It feels good to have my first colorwork project completed. :)

Here’s how I added a thumb gusset. I started the gusset on row 17 of the chart by increasing one stitch. On row 19, I started doing M1R and M1L to increase two stitches. I fit the gusset in between the front and the blue “seam” of the back, making sure that it had one gray stitch on each side of the stitch markers, so the TARDISes wouldn’t get distorted. I increased 2 stitches on ever odd row, until after row 35 (so 18 st. between markers). Then continued with the gusset plain until row 39, when I put the thumb on waste yarn. Cast on 1 st. over the gap, and continued with the mitts, ending the chart with row 46. To finish the thumb, I picked up 2 st. over the gap and then knitted 10 rounds of the thumb before binding off.

Nov 1: I was nearly halfway through when I realized that I wasn’t going to be happy with how big these were turning out. (And most comments on other projects say they were took small!) I hated to do it, but I ripped it out to start over with size 1 needles.

My first real colorwork project! I’m making the fingerless gloves. I think I’m already addicted, though I’m not sure what the end result will be. :) I really want to add a thumb gusset if I can figure it out, since people say the mitts fit better with a gusset.
