A knitted version of Outlander’s Jamie & Claire. A friend suggested this project and I can’t NOT do it, right? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
Step 1 has been completed: Kilt fabric ordered from Spoonflower.com. The Spoonflower design is based on the Mackenzie tartan that was created by the costume designer on the show. Woo hoo! Spoonflower calls it “1/3 scale Graham of Menteith weathered reverse”, just FYI.
I think knitting their tiny little outfits is going to be the death of me. Thank God I could buy the kilt.
Aug 21: I am very disappointed to find out JoAnn’s has discontinued their Kashmira line of yarn. That was Perfect for making dolls with! Ugh. I’m using some cream colored wool I’ve had for ages instead. It’ll do the job. I hope.
Aug 24: Finished the heads. Claire (like Book!Claire, not Show!Claire) has brown eyes and Jamie has… black. They didn’t have blue in that size so I just used the non-colored eyes. Good enough.
Aug 26: Finished both bodies and one set of arms. Claire is wearing a white shift. Jamie will be wearing his kilt like, well, a “true Scot” as they say.
Aug 28: Kilt fabric arrived from Spoonflower and it’s fabulous!
Aug 31: Finished Claire’s arms and top. Sewed Claire’s head and arms to her body. Added a clear bead on her left hand and a silver bead on her right hand. Designed and knit her corset top and laces.
Sept 3: Finished both sets of legs. Notes for Jamie’s legs: knit 45 rnds (not 50). Begin with black (for boots) at Rnd 24. After shaping foot, knit 7 rnds (not 10). Notes for Claire’s legs: knit 44 rnds. Start with white (for shift), change to cream on Rnd 29. Begin in brown (shoes) where foot shaping begins. After foot shaping, knit 5 rnds (not 10).
Sept 8: Changes. I was unhappy with the big decrease line going down the middle of wee Jamie’s forehead (why don’t I ever notice these things until I take pictures??) AND I finally found the extra set of blue eyes I knew I had around here somewhere. Soooo… I took off his head, opened it up, swapped out the eyes, and sewed it back on again. Now if only I had not placed his new eyes so dang far apart… ugh. Oh well. Also fixed.
Also knit a couple more versions of Claire’s top. This latest version looks the best I think.

Sept 15: STILL working on Claire’s skirt. This 8-inch long, 16,000-stitch pleated monstrosity is taking a while.
Sept 17: Finished Jamie’s waistcoat. Still working on Claire’s skirt. Slowly but surely, it’s coming along.

Sept 19: CLAIRE IS FINISHED! Finished her skirt finally and began work on her hair. Used the KP Crayon boucle for the hair to hint at some crazy curls and I think it was fairly successful. Attached skirt. Boom. Done. Now on to Jamie!
Sept 20: JAMIE IS FINISHED! Attached Jamie’s hair. Using the new “Fraser” colorway created specifically for the recent JBW Outlander MKAL. It’s perfect!! Pleated and ironed his kilt last night. Fastened a stag “brooch” to his plaid. Made a belt and sewed it to the ends of his plaid. Clubbed his hair. He’s one dapper Highlander.
*(And yes, if you’re wondering, WeeJamie’s back does have ‘scars’ on it. You know, for accuracy.)
