Notes

I fell in love with the shawl that’s pictured on page 2 of the first edition of “Knitted Lace of Estonia”. The hearts edging is just too pretty even though I wasn’t too wild about the large Greta Garbo stitch pattern in the body part. I found out that the shawl is a design by Nancy Bush and is called ‘Greta Garbo Shawl’. Unfortunately it isn’t included in the book and the picture on page 2 was obviously a mistake. They took it out for later printings of the book. It’s available as a kit, through Wooly West now.

Since it was really only the edging part that I liked I sat down and charted it from looking at the pics and I’m currently knitting a shawl that’s supposed to end up about the size as my Miralda shawl - not too big.

The plan works out nicely so far and the grey heather yarn is much softer than the dyed blue one I’ve used for Miralda.

2010-04-11: Decided to incorporate Greta Garbo stitch pattern after all. Nearly done with this one. Looks nice. Then I’ll do a second border and after that it’s off to the body part in a start pattern. Not sure if the yarn will be enough this time because the Greta Garbo nupps eat up a lot of yarn. Thinking about changing the shape to a shallower form by working the 6 decreases for 2 rows on the body part. Body part is a basic 3-star stitch pattern that I love in the Laminaria pattern.

2010-04-13: All done and blocking now. Worked out beautifully. I just love working with this yarn. And it blocks out so very nice, all lacy and lofty. The size came out just right and the shape has the advantage that the shawl stays on your shoulders nicely.

This was the first prototype of the pattern and it has undergone a few changes and some optimization on its way to publishing.
