I am at a point when I have to have a pair of socks on my needles. It’s my easy , take on the road, watch TV project.
With just having finished a pair of socks for Tony I have been feeling lost the last couple of days not knowing what to do with my hands. The only solution was to cast on another pair and this one is for me.
As I had not divided my yarn into two balls yet when I started, I knit the toes with a bit of scrap yarn: Hedgehog sock yarn color “aroma”. I am starting to like that look of using cc yarn for the toes and heels.
I am using the pattern for the stitch only. For a more narrow foot I cast on 60 stitches. After the toes I redistributed the sts by “borrowing “ the last st to add to the front of the first sock and the first st of the back to add to the front of the second sock. Needle 1(which is Needle 2 in the pattern) 31 sts and Needle 2 (which is Needle 1 in the pattern) 29 sts.
The 8-row pattern breaks up the variegated yarn very nicely.
After one pattern repeat I decided to have a more narrow design on the top of the foot and eliminated the first and last three stitches from the lattice pattern by just keeping them in stockinette stitch. Remember: I am working toe-up.

A decision made a little tricky.. It it usually straight forward when to start your FLK heel as long as you made a good template. However with this stitch the gauge per row is different in stst than in the pattern stitch. This is due to the slipped stitches. I have not reached my “ turning line” on the front / top of the foot, but have reached it on the sole. I decided to go by the measurement of the sole of the foot and turned both heels today (3.3.).
I tried the socks on my foot and they are a perfect fit. I cannot wait to finish now that I am in the homestretch. I really like the color a lot.
TIP. When using a cc yarn for the FLK heel, make sure to work the first row in the main color so you have your working yarn sitting in the right position once you are done with the heel and ready to knit once again in the round.
If you forgot, you can carry your working yarn by doing a triple stitch in the first two sts of the last row.
A third way would be to knit the first two stitches of the first heel row in the main color and then switch to the cc at the third stitch thus positioning your main color yarn to use for the final heel row.

3.19.: I waited a couple of weeks to finish these, because I wanted to see how much of the “Aroma” I had left from the Building Blocks Shawl. I no longer need that color for the shawl and there is plenty left to use for the cuff. I am working a k2tbl,p lining up the knit stitches with the slipped sts.

Finished and loving them. They fit well and I like the color. One thing about using this stitch: It is not stretchy and just a little hard to pull over the heel.
