Notes

The first three photos show the mitts after adding the extention.

December 25: Matthew loves them, but I had to lengthen the flip part by 2 inches for a better over-lap and fit. The seam is visible, but they fit a lot better. With the 2 inch over-lap the flip part stays put. Now I know for next time.

This is a quick knit: After less than a week I am done with the mittens including the thumbs and am now adding the flip tops. I cast on 22 stitches, then pick up 18 stitches 1/2 “ from the top of the back of the glove and begin knitting in the round in k2, p2 ribbing.
About 1 inch before reaching the desired length I start decreasing following the instructions in the mitt’s flip flop pattern.

A second pair for Matt since he is wearing the first pair I knitted for him non-stop. I am using the calculations on the pattern as for Tony’s and Richard’s mitts (CO 40 etc) for a larger size. And just to make it a bit more interesting I am adding a mitten flip top using the Mitt’s Flip -Flop Flip-Top pattern, but picking up stitches about 1/2 inch below the cast off edge of the fingerless mittens instead of carrying on on half of the mitt. I think this makes for a better flip :)
