A beautiful pattern. I especially like the fact that once you are done you are done; no danger of second sock syndrome here. The cabling is beautiful and worth the effort. The fit is good, too. A manly sock indeed.

Finished over the July 4th weekend. A waste of time to make these during 92 F weather? Not for my Englishman :). Yes, he does wear them with sandals.

• I used the smaller needle for the cuff ribbing and finished with the invisible ribbed sewn bind-off.

• The gusset corner looks almost perfect as I started knitting in the round again on row 22. You can see in one of the pictures how the diamond pattern picks up from the flat part of the gusset and brings it to a point. I had started the heel after two repeats of the 34 row cable chart.

Heel Construction A different heel construction to the toe-up socks I knitted up using Anne Berk’s pattern where you did not need to pick up stitches. In this pattern you do have to pick up stitches after knitting a heel flap. I am tempted to merge the two patterns for my next pair.

• I didn’t bother to make the perfect gusset corner (Antje suggests an alternate way of knitting that section if you want a perfect corner) and now I just have to do the cuff.

• Tried on the socks and my husband had a Cinderella moment of the perfect fit.

• I weight the yarn at this point and have a little more than half the yarn left. So, one skein is definitely enough.

• June 2013 Re-naming the project from “more socks for hubby” to “hidden love” since there is a lot of love going into the cabling hidden inside the shoes and under his trouser legs; well, other than my husband nobody will really see that:)

• May 2013 First time to do Judy’s magic cast-on. Once you get the rhythm it is quite easy and it gives a neat seamless start on the toe unlike the other toe-up sock pattern I knitted up recently.
  I had however bit off more than I could chew when trying to work the socks from the same ball of yarn as well as the added re-enforcing yarn from the same card. After the first two rows and before I got it all in tangles, I pulled out yarn from the inside of the ball, weighted it to 2 oz (half), cut the yarn and wound a second ball. I also divided the re-enforcing yarn onto two cards.

Note: each sock is 64sts around.
