Notes

Finally found the right project for this yarn that I got when I visited Scotland for a conference several years ago. This variegated yarn looks absolutely LOVELY in the Welting Fantastic pattern--an effect my friend Amelia calls “phony Missoni.” The close-up photo from blocking shows the gorgeous color variations--mother-of-pearly oyster gray, blush pink, moss green, and pale blue. This Virgo colorway has, I think, been discontinued (I bought this yarn FOREVER ago) but the current Dove colorway comes pretty close…

The design works really well as a pullover for those of us who don’t live in a climate cold enough to really justify a full-length sweater dress. Now I can wear my Hill Country IN the Hill Country…woo-hoo! This yarn substitution was really easy, too; I just checked gauge and went up a size in the pattern to a M to get a finished garment that matched the size S measurements. (If you’re planning to do likewise, note that the number of skeins is for the 100g put-up, which may not be available widely in the US--double the number if you’re buying 50g skeins!) Manos Silk Blend is so nice to work with, too--really lovely stuff. I’m thrilled this turned out so well. Can’t wait for a blustery March day to wear it!
