Notes

Tried four different knitted sweaters for this yarn including Vodka Lemonade, Tea with Toast and Jam, and Simsbury, before settling on Hanten. Fourth time seems to be the charm.

The one swatch for a crochet sweater was a complete disaster: I have three different dye lots of the Baroque Violet and it didn’t harmonize as well in crochet for some reason.

Hanten notes for gauge. Original gauge: 14 stitches = 4 inches or 3.5 stitches/inch. My gauge 4.66 stitches per inch.

Fronts - work to 56 stitches before going to second section.
Back - cast on 112 stitches. Center 36 stitches on a holder for the neck.
Shoulder pickup 56 stitches up and down

Garter stripes are taming the differences nicely, as is embracing the organic nature of this particular project. I’m mentally calling it wabi sabi, but I know it’s not really wabi sabi so much as letting go of my need for perfection.

Second front is going well. I have decided to just embrace the vagaries of hand dyed yarn and let this be whatever it is when it’s done.

I think the modular construction of the fronts will help give it sort of a patchwork effect and let it look like it was planned for a certain level of organic feel.

Second front completed. Cast on for the back. Got about 4 inches into the back.

Over half way through the back now. Actual measurements will be taken tonight.

Currently at 21 of 26 inches to neck bind off. (an additional inch is knit for the shoulders.

Picked this back up tonight to put a few rows on it. 8 rows = an inch of length, so something like 32 more rows before the neck bind off.

I’d forgotten how heavy this sweater is. The back weighs a ton already. The pattern calls for sewing the back to the fronts and then picking up a number of stitches for the sleeves. I’m very tempted to knit the sleeves separately and set them on at this point, just to minimize the weight.

The front bands are going to be super heavy, as the whole weight of the sweater will be in place by the time I pick up for it.

Making a WIP push on the Baroque Violet Hanten. Put a few more rows on the back.

I frogged it. I’m not sure what possessed me, but there it is. This yarn deserves to be something I truly love.
