Notes

I love yarn cakes, they are so much fun to work with!

The car seat blanket in this project uses exactly on cake. However, the pattern allows you to add on and make it any size you want.

I used the colors the way they came off the cake, which will make each blanket unique. If you want to sort colors and make a pattern … there’s nothing wrong with that either!

Sew them together as you go, or weave everything first and lay them out on a design felt, then sew them together hexagons to hexagons into rows first, then rows to rows. Either way is fine.

For the design as you see it, I started with one hexagon in the center, then added to that in circles. Some of the step-by-step photos show what I did. Then you just keep going until you run out of cake … yarn … cake yarn.

My cake yielded the 61 hexagons that I needed to end in a full round, with one hexagon to spare and a few small balls in each color, because I decided to not mix colors within a hexagon.

Adding a border is optional (I didn’t).

Happy weaving!
