Let’s celebrate our dads with a Father’s Day gnome … as well with a fun and adventurous motorcycle!

The motorcycle is scaled to fit the gnomes, but they make a great stuffed pocket toy for Daddy’s Little Helper, too.

Other Materials

  • A patch of your choice to decorate the helmet
  • Stuffing
  • Sewing thread to match the patch
  • Tapestry needle, scissors

MAKING THE GNOME:

Weave

  • (1) 6” denim hexagon for the body
  • (1) 6” gray hexagon for the “helmet”
  • (1) 4” beige hexagon for the head
  • (1) 2” beige hexagon for the nose
  • (2) 2” black hexagons for the feet
  • (1) 2” plush hexagon for the beard

Assembly

  • To form the body, weave a piece of yarn all around the body hexagon and pull it close a little bit. Stuff. Pull tight the opening to about 1.5” and secure.
  • To form the head, weave a yarn end all around the head hexagon and pull it in. Stuff. Pull tight the opening to about 1.5” and secure.
  • Sew head to body.
  • To form the nose, weave a yarn end all around the nose hexagon and pull it. Stuff. Pull tight the opening to about 0.5” and secure.
  • Sew nose onto the head.
  • For the beard, sew one side of the beard hexagon right under the nose.
  • For the helmet, fold the helmet hexagon in half. Pull in the top fold to form a tip, then sew along the length of one hexagon side to form the hat. Very lightly stuff the helmet, then position it onto the gnome’s head and body as pictured and secure with a few stitches.
  • For each foot, weave a yarn end all around a foot hexagon and pull it in. Stuff. Pull tight to close the opening. Sew feet to body.
  • Sew the patch onto the helmet, using sewing thread.

MAKING THE MOTORCYCLE:

Weave

  • (1) 4” marbled denim hexagon for the frame/tank
  • (5) 2” black hexagons for the tires and the seat
  • (1) 2” gray hexagon for the handlebar
  • (6) 1” gray hexagons for the wheels and the motor
  • (1) 1” off-white hexagon for the light
  • (1) 1” marbled denim hexagon for the light

Assembly

  • To make the tires, start by sewing a 1” gray hexagon onto a 2” black hexagons (4x)
  • Take two of those and hold them wrong sides together, sew around, leaving a small opening. Stuff to form tires and close completely. (2x)
  • For the motor, hold two 1” gray hexagons together, sew around, leaving a small opening. Slightly stuff and close completely.
  • For the light, hold one 1” off-white and one 1” marbled denim hexagon together, sew around, leaving a small opening. Stuff to make it round and close completely.
  • For the seat, sew and end of yarn around all sides of one 2” black hexagon and pull that thread in gently to make the hexagon look like a seat cover.
  • For the handlebar, fold the 2” gray hexagon along the line of the weaving starting thread, fold each half once more in and over, then sew along the open sides.
  • For the frame/tank, fold the marbled denim 4” hexagon along the weaving starting thread, sew along two sides. Stuff. Weave through the two remaining side edges and pull in the thread to close the piece completely.
  • Sew pieces into place according to the picture.
