If you want to tap into lace weaving on your hexagon pin loom, these baskets are a great small project to do so. And if you don’t want to do lace, just plain weave in pretty yarn will result in a nice basket, too.

You can download the weaving pattern free of charge from our turtleloom.com blog.

Weaving:
For each basket,
weave 3 TexaTURTLE™ hexagons in a lace pattern of your choice.
Weave 3 TexaTURTLE™ hexagons for the lining.

Assembly:
Use the photos to guide you.
Use a simple overhand stitch and connect the little “arches” and “elbows” along the matching sides to get the prettiest seaming.

  • Sew 3 lace hexagons into a row. Make sure that “right sides” are facing each other when you sew them together.
  • Sew 3 liner hexagons into a row.
  • Connect the liner row and the lace row as shown.
  • Sew the tips of the liner hexagons together as shown.
  • Join the last tips and also sew along the last side of the liner.
  • Repeat the last two steps for the lace row.
  • Turn the basket right side out through the remaining opening, than close that opening.
  • Push the liner into the basket and tie the center of the outside and inside with a short piece of yarn, so that the bottom layers stay in place.
  • Shape your basket.

Enjoy!

Makes a great little basket for a small knitting project (socks), or for notions, a key basket, or … my favorite … a biscuits basket (holds 7 HEB Texas Style biscuits without overflowing)!
