Here’s the Gnome of the Month for May … Mother Gnome … all dressed up in her Sunday’s Best and a straw hat with a pretty flower, and a bag large enough to hold a treasured gift card … or a knitting project.

Other Materials

  • Stuffing
  • Tapestry needle, scissors
  • (2) ends of bamboo skewers, about 2” long, for the “needles”

Weave

  • (1) 6” multi-color hexagon for the body
  • (1) 6” beige hexagon for the hat
  • (1) 4” soft pink hexagon for the head
  • (1) 2” soft pink hexagon for the nose
  • (2) 2” white hexagons for the feet

A flower is made of two 1” hexagons. Make as many as you wish. We used:

  • (1) 1” multi-color hexagon
  • (1) 1” pink hexagon

To make the bag, you will also need to weave:
- (1) 4” pink hexagon

To assemble the Mother Gnome, follow the basic assembly instructions of the Graduate Gnome (yes, you can skip the beard!)

To make the bag, follow the instructions of the Little Purse / Treat Holder.

To make a flower:

  • Weave in all ends.

  • Lay two hexagons on top of each other.

  • Leaving a long tail, sew a cross stitch through the center of both layers.

  • Pull both yarn ends together and make a knot. (Use those yarn ends later to attach the flower to the hat.)
