In return for Wollmeise Lace in Schwarz.
Labelled as 329g skein. Weighed 328g on my scales.
My ball winder doesn’t take big skeins so caked the yarn into two (joined) cakes.
Recommend using two distinguishable markers for the centre stitches. It helped me work out easily which was the RS and which was the WS for the increasing since it’s all in garter at the beginning, it’s a bit hard to tell. E.g. yellow marker first is my increase row, blue marker first is my knit row.
Mods:
- In garter section KFB for the last stitch of EVERY row instead of the first and last of every 2nd row. This makes the long edge of the triangle match on both the left and right sides and eliminates the “edging” look on the right side.
- For the stocking stitch rows used only 1 marker before the centre stitch (no marker after centre stitch). Knit to the marker, M1R then YO, SM, K1, M1L, Knit as per pattern. In every following row, Knit to the YO, drop the YO, M1R, SM, K1, M1L, knit as per pattern.
- 3 rows of eyelets before the main eyelet pattern as per jancacha’s viajante - started with 120g of yarn left. 63g of yarn left after 3 lots of eyelets and 11 rows of stockinette between each lot of eyelets.
- 23 rows of eyelets in order to use up all the yarn
March 1, 2013 Reverse progress - frogged to restart on bigger needles.
March 4, 2013 Up to a few rounds past the join in the round. For some reason the long side still ended up to be 48cm (unstretched) but the fabric is a bit more drapey and stretchy. It stretches around my 55cm head fine while before it had to stretch a bit more.
March 17, 2013 341 sts on the needles. 163g to go.
March 29, 2013 Bound off with 3.5g left. Did 23 rows of eyelets to use up the yarn. Starting the eyelets at 20% of yarn left needed more than the 17 eyelet rows stated in the pattern to use the yarn so it can easily be less than 20% yarn before the eyelets. The finished shawl is pretty huge.
Regarding my 2nd mod with the centre stitches, the reason behind adding the YOs (and then dropping them) is because the two M1s on either side of the centre stitch would need to “borrow” too much yarn from the stitches on either side so they were puckering without the YO. A YO on either side of the centre stitch was too much yarn and caused holes which I didn’t like, so I only used one. I also didn’t like either of the increase options given in pattern. This one came out symmetrical.
