Notes

I did nine repeats of the main motif, and it’s enormous. HUGE. I just bound off tonight. I only worked on this sporadically for the last couple of months because the loooooooong rows were sucking the life out of me.

It looks like the wingspan is going to be over 100”. Jeez.

Anyway, thanks to the rabid inconsistencies of the Sea Silk Ivory colorway, it looks like it’s been subtly dip-dyed. I had a feeling this was going to happen, so I used the lightest skein to start out with since it would comprise the most visible area across my back. When I switched skeins, I used ALL of the second one (and had to start a third to bind off with), but because of the long rows on the edges of the triangle, the dark part is only a few inches at the bottom. I don’t think I’m explaining this well. I’ll post pictures that will hopefully show what I’m talking about.

As for the pattern - I did use a center stitch, and I used the charts from http://feministy.com/, as well as 2sticks’s Worksheet that had a stitch count at the end of the repeats, which was nice.

I did not use stitch markers! That was a first for me. Instead, I looked at how the pattern went as far as where the yos were spaced, and I counted yos as I was purling back. It worked very well for me. Like this: “Three stitches - yo - stitch - yo - three stitches - yo - stitch - yo - three stitches.” There was a recognizable pattern like this for each repeat row.

On blocking, I found that one side of the triangle was bigger than the other. To the tune of one side being 49” from center to tip and the other 45”. It is completely beyond me how a symmetrical shawl could end up lopsided. I managed, with creative blocking (and lots of stretching) to whittle it down to a 2 inch difference.

And I must say, it looks stunning with my matron of honor dress! :)
