Blanket with the L hook, eyes with the H.
The husband picked out the colors. :-) He requested a size of ‘at least as big as my A&M blanket, probably bigger’. The A&M throw is 50x60. I think the width is all right, it’s the length he’d like more of … as he’s just over 6 foot tall, that makes sense.
I used the Tiramisu stitch pattern for this blanket. I cast on 209 stitches to get a 51-52” width. Hopefully I have enough yarn to end up with at least a 60” length, I’m hoping for closer to 70”. I’ll do some math once I’ve worked up the first ball, and see how it comes out.
Obviously miscalculated, it ended up 46” wide. And 82” long. I did 28 rows of each turtle color and 38 rows in each green section. The red and blue were extra thick (even though it’s the same yarn), so I only did 26 rows of those.
Eyes: Based on this: http://www.crochetgeek.com/2008/08/blog-post_17.html
I started with Crochet Geek’s half circle, and modified it to be more of a half oval. The ‘top’ of the oval has alternating hdc and sc rows, to make it shorter than a true semicircle. The last few rows of the ‘sides’ of the oval are worked in dc vs. hdc to elongate the edges. Sorry about the bold sections, I couldn’t figure out how to make an asterisk in ravelry notes, it kept italicizing or bolding the text … and bold is easier to see. So, basically, the bold sections are the ones that need to be repeated.
Row 1: Into a magic circle, ch2 and 5hdc. (ch2 does NOT count as a stitch), turn. 5 st
Row 2: ch2 (counts as stitch), hdc into same stitch, 2 hdc in remaining stitches, turn. 10 st
Row 3: ch2 (counts as stitch), hdc into same stitch, 1 hdc, 2 hdc in next stitch, 1 hdc, 2 sc in next stitch, 1 sc, 2 hdc into next stitch, 1 hdc to end, turn. 15 st
Row 4: ch2 (counts as stitch), hdc into same stitch, 2 hdc, 2 hdc into next stitch, 2 hdc to end, turn. 20 st
Row 5: ch2 (counts as stitch), hdc into same stitch, 3 hdc, 2 hdc into next stitch, 3 hdc, 2 sc into next stitch, 3 sc, 2 hdc into next stitch, 3 hdc to end, turn. 25 st
Row 6: ch3 (counts as stitch), dc into same stitch, 4 dc, 2 hdc into next stitch, 4 hdc 3 times, 2dc into same stitch, 4 dc, turn. 30 st
Row 7: ch3 (counts as stitch), dc into same stitch, 5 dc, 2 hdc into next stitch, 5 hdc, 2 sc into next stitch, 5 sc, 2 hdc into next stitch, 5 hdc, 2 dc into next stitch, 5 dc, turn. 35 st
Row 8: ch 3 (counts as stitch), dc into same stitch, 6 dc, 2 hdc into next stitch, 6 hdc 3 times, 2 dc into same stitch, 6 dc, do not turn. 40 stitches
Bottom of semicircle: ch1, and work a row of sc across the bottom. Bind off.
