Notes

9/28/17 Blocked and done! Final measurements are as blocked: about 120” by 50”. Surprisingly, it doesn’t feel as soft as it did pre-blocking. The color is gorgeous and hard to capture via phone pics. It’s a semisolid rust with red and gold tones.

9/26/17 I finally got around to blocking this. I was a little worried it wouldn’t be big enough. It turns out that was silly--I forgot how much some superwash wools grow. It’s 5 mats long and 2 mats deep, lightly pinned. Each mat is 2’ square, so it’s going to be a sizable shawl.

3/17/17 I just have to bind off and then will be done. I did one (I think) extra pattern repeat and then just worked the garter stitch pattern until I was getting low on yarn. I’ve lost at yarn chicken twice now. First, I realized I was getting too low and ripped back a row and a half. I started binding off. I got within maybe 30 sts of the end of the row and it became clear that my yarn was in no way going to make it. So I pulled out the bind off and one row and will bind off on the wrong side instead. The bind off looks nearly identical on each side so I’m okay with it.

Surprisingly, I only got about 40 more rows in than the pattern calls for. I thought it would be more. It seems plenty big, though, which is good. I’m still not sure who this is going to be for but, given how much I’m loving it, I think I will just keep it :) It looks really nice--the perfect combination of pretty squishy yarn and interesting but not too busy pattern. I’ve gotten lots of compliments on it already.

2/24/17 Got started on this last night. So far, so good. It’s very easy. I didn’t check gauge. I just used one size larger than the pattern calls for, since usually I knit on the tight side. I have 4 skeins of Tosh DK and I’m planning on using up as much of it as I can. They look pretty well matched so I’m not alternating skeins.

I have to say, this pattern has the best selvage treatment for garter stitch that I’ve seen so far. It looks almost like an I cord border. It’s neat and smooth but not tight at all. I love it!
