Notes

In the back of The Knitted Lace Patterns of Christine Duchrow, Vol III are several hand-drafted charts from the notebooks of Gertrud Woywod. This is the one on page 140.

Notes: Sample knitted on size 0 needles with cotton string about the thickness of size 10 crochet cotton. This combination came out heavy for my taste - I would use thinner thread or larger needles if I knitted this again. The recommended thread size on the chart is DMC size 70 or 80.

The charts do not add or decrease a stitch in the pattern rows where they show an increase/decrease, so I fudged at the end to make them work.

Later I learned that a common way to make up the stitch count was to make a YO as the first stitch of the purl side. Rows were reduced using a P2tog as the first stitch of the purl side.

I made the darker (and easier for me to read) chart in the photos using the knitting symbol font from knittinguniverse.com.

May 2010 Note: It turns out there is an existing chart for this and a matching insertion in the Lacis book Knitted Lace II (Kunst-Stricken II)! See Blütenmuster edging by Gertrud Villforth (the German fraktur V was mistaken for a B, so the Lacis book cover says “Billforth”).
