The great sock experiment: Testing different sock techniques to figure out which method & construction I like best. Part I: cuff down spiral socks on dpns.

They’re the socks on the left (pictured next to part II of the great sock experiment).

These socks are spirals, which means that you don’t need to knit heels! Super easy mindless sock knitting, and very convenient knitting for anyone with narrow or wide heels, or kids who grow out of socks quickly. You don’t have to knit the entire sock in spiral shape, you can knit just the heels as spirals. This construction is best for vanilla socks, since the spirals are achieve by knitting k4, p4 for 4 rows, then shift by a stitch and so on.
