My first KAL! I just cast on tonight and will work my way through Clue 1! And yes, I am making two different colored socks! Sort of…

24 Apr
Mid-way through the first repeat. The pattern calls for three repeats, but I think I’m going to do two; for some reason I’m a bit tense while knitting this so my sock will be a little tight and shortening it will keep it from bunching up around my ankles!

27 Apr
All done with the leg! I did two repeats and that put the length at 4.25” instead of the 5.5” the pattern calls for. I’m okay with that because I think it will be just the right height for the fit. Next up: heel flaps!

30 Apr
Okay, these are turning out quite snug due to the crossed stitches and cables. As cute as it looks, I’m going to have to ditch the pattern on the top of the sock. The gusset is going to be snug enough without it; with it I’m afraid it would be impossible for me to wear these socks.

On the plus side, this yarn should relax a tiny bit when blocking (or at least it did on my hat). Hopefully that means these will still be wearable!

I’m learning that I’m just not overly fond of cables. They are so much slower to do and the two stitch crossed stitches really seem to decrease the elasticity of the material. Ironically, decreased elasticity also seems to increase my tension. Which, of course, leads to decreased elasticity. Sigh.

Finally finished with the gusset! I kept making mistakes! First, I tried to include the cables (but not the crossed stitches) and it looked funny, so I ripped back to do it all plain. Then I miscounted and thought I needed to rip back 5 rounds. So I did and then discovered I didn’t need to. Oops. Then I realized that one sock had an extra decrease in the gusset. It was too far back to fix properly, but I did pull up a new stitch to get the count back even. Finally, I think things are okay(ish).
