Casting on for my first toe up socks and the husband’s first handmade socks! Yay socks! Also, this is the test run for my new KA Switch short set. So far, I’ve had one person ask me if I’m knitting with toothpicks. It certainly looks like it!

Well, I’m not back home yet and my Alaska socks are almost done, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to bind off before we are back home. Still, I’m pleased with how far I’ve gotten on the socks and the husband loves how they look and how the (so far) fit. Yay!

Nope, wasn’t able to finish the socks on the plane! Oh well! I don’t have a whole lot left to go - the legs are currently about 4.5” long. I’m just going to keep going until I run out of yarn.

Finished! I still have to block them but the husband refuses to take them off! I’m quite pleased with how they turned out - the pattern is great and so easy! Sadly, these socks are a tad too big for me. I won’t be able to steal them!

Sizing
Toe: increase to 64sts.
Straight knitting for 8 rows (including marked row and row on the needle).
46 rounds of the foot.
Increase to 92 stitches / 28 rows for gusset. (And I just realized that I alternated increase and plain rounds instead of two plain rounds following an increase round. Oops.)
75 rounds of ribbing for the leg.

Notes
Next time, I would make the instep needle divisible by 4 +2 to make each side of the instep begin/end with knit 2 so the sides (and increases) are mirror images of each other.
My skein was actually 110g, so I had a little extra yardage. Turns out it was unneeded, though. I had 14g leftover!

Random Comments
Since I was working on these during vacation, there has been a lot of Knitting in Public. Not too many comments, though. One guy (a lapsed knitter) was amazed to see such small circs. His mind was fairly blown when I showed him they were interchangeables. Another lady said they were gorgeous and said (jokingly) that if the husband didn’t like them, I should pack them up and send them to her. Another lady at the airport told me how envious she was as she watched me knit. All very positive experiences!
