Making this hat for Kerry for photography/modelling purposes.
This time I made this hat with a slightly bigger hook, 6mm instead of the 5.5mm I made the last one with (in seafoam blue). Well actually I started with the same hook but it was turning out smaller than the last hat and after frogging and trying again it still wasn’t right so I decided to try going up a hook size instead. This worked and the hats are a similar size, if anything this one is slightly bigger but not by much.
My top tips for making this hat are;
- Test gauge first, it’s really not worth skipping.
- When you work with the Flutterby yarn, use the tip on the band which is tie a quick knot to the end as this will stop the fluff coming off. By this I mean once you’ve tied on this yarn to start working it, use the other end that you’ll be weaving in and tie a knot in the end of this. It will stop white bits coming off everywhere. Once you’ve then finished with that yarn and pulled it through the loop tie a knot to that cut end too.
- When it comes to the increase rounds, make sure when you get to the last repeat or two to measure your hat. You might find even with the perfect gauge that you might not need all the repeats. The pattern states the suggested length of that size hat and if your working to that size or even your own it’s worth checking. Remember you still have the edging after this so bare that it mind when checking length/height of hat.
I used my Clover pom pom maker to make the pom pom, I used my 45mm one from the small set.
Photos include a photo collage of this hat and another, same size just another colour. To see the details of this hat the link is below;

I’ve added photos at the bottom (technically the start) showing all the baby hats I made for Kerry which include this hat. After these photos you’ll then see it starts with my work in progress photos of this hat, finishing with finished photos and photo collages (so the top of the photos, technically the end).
