Notes

Used different base pattern; eliminated side cables. Wrote out the mouse mitt the way I knit it below.

Found the Squeaky Mittens too difficult to understand, and after frogging the first mitt twice, I’ve decided to use only the important part of the pattern and modify a well-known and often knit pattern. (Thanks to purple for walking me through the construction of the mouse; super helped a lot.)

I’m using the 75 Yard Malabrigo Fingerless Mitts pattern and setup, making the hand into reverse stockinette and inserting the mouse part of the Squeaky Mittens pattern into the top of this patterns hand. The notes below are written as I integrate the two.

m1k = insert left needle into bar between stitches; knit through back loop
m1p = insert left needle into bar between stitches; purl through back loop
slm = slip marker
C2B = cable 2 back (knit the first stitch, purl the second stitch)
C2F = cable 2 front (purl the first stitch, knit the second stitch)
ssk = slip, slip, knit the two sts together (left leaning decrease)
k2tog = knit 2 sts together (right leaning decrease)

CO 32, magic loop (split 16 stitches to each needle), join to knit in round.
K1P1 rib for 20 rounds.

Thumb:
Pick up stitches. You can pick up additional stitches if needed from the edge of the hand, making sure the count is even. Split stitches across two needles and join in the round. Purl all stitches for a length that’s comfortable, then 5 rounds of k1p1 before BO.
